WATER RECREATION

Experience your Kentucky waterways

Kentucky’s many parks reflect the diversity and beauty of the Commonwealth. The 17 state resort parks and 24 state recreation parks have plenty of water recreation to offer, earning Kentucky a reputation as “the nation’s finest state park system.” Kentucky State Parks are popular destinations for swimming, boating, and fishing. And you can find lots of information about recreation in Kentucky's waterways, including a user-friendly map

There's more!

Within the boundaries of Mammoth Cave National Park, 25 miles of the Green River and six miles of the Nolin River provide visiters with a scenic environment in which to fish, canoe, and go boating.

A wide variety of recreational uses are promoted at the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. Whitewater rafting, canoeing, and kayaking are popular in the spring months, while canoeing and canoe camping on non-whitewater sections are available all year.

So, who loses if our streams are not healthy for swimming or fishing?

All of us and future generations. Get involved with other volunteers who are working to protect and restore Kentucky’s waterways and our watersheds.

Learn what you (and your kids) can do at home, at work, and in your community so that you can enjoy all of Kentucky’s streams and rivers.
