| The
Commonwealth Water Education Project is a partnership
of people in Kentucky, working together to help keep Kentucky's
streams and rivers healthy for drinking, swimming, fishing,
and boating—for us and for future generations. Why?
According to the Kentucky
Division of Water, many of Kentucky's assessed streams
and rivers are polluted to the point where they can no longer
support swimming and fishing! Did you know that?
We think we can do better.
This Project is trying to get the
word out through educator professional development, training
workshops, and a media campaign. The word is that all across
the Commonwealth, we have wonderful streams
that are good for water recreation,
but problems do exist with the health of some streams. The
good news is, there are simple things we each can do to
help make a difference.
Want to learn more? Get involved!
The Kentucky
Growth Readiness project offers training workshops that
help community leaders learn how to maintain water quality
as their communities grow. The Educator
Professional Development project offers week-long summer
institutes for elementary, middle school, and high school
teachers and nonformal educators to give them hands-on activities,
skills, and materials they can use in the classroom and
other instructional settings.
